The Queensland State Government Chapter of the Records Management
Association of Australasia (RMAA) was formed in 1999 with the aim of
highlighting the strategic importance of best practice records management
in Queensland State Government agencies.
Objectives
- To be the focal point for networking, education, training
and professional development in records management.
- To be recognised
by industry as a force and resource in records and information
management.
- To be the public voice and advocate on records and information
management issues.
- To deliver high quality member services.
- To manage the
Chapter's business effectively and professionally.
Achievements to date include: EDM Framework Wish List, Records Storage
Survey Report, Staff Exchange Program Handbook, Handling of Suspicious
Mail Information Kit, Australian State Governments PRO/Standards Survey
Report, Benchmarking Proposal, Comments to Minister about Public Records
Bill, Comments to QSA about QLD Storage Standard, General Records Retention
and Disposal Handbook, SGC Action Plan, SGC Records Management Document
References, SGC Members List, SGC Membership Kit, Internet Webpages
and membership benefits like networking, speakers, information sharing
and providing a forum.
Meetings
Chapter meetings are held every 3 months on the last Wednesday of
the month. Hosting of the meetings is rotated around members' State
Government agencies. Chapter meetings usually begin at 10:00am and
continue until all business is completed. All Chapter members are invited
to attend.
Committee meetings are held as required and usually a week or more
prior to Council meetings so that reports can be presented to the Chapter
meeting. Only Chapter Committee representatives are required to attend.
Council meetings are held every 3 months, the month before each Chapter
meeting on the last Wednesday of the month. Only Chapter Council representatives
are required to attend.
Committees
Three committees have been established to further the goals of the
Chapter:
- Technology Dependent Records Committee to develop a model of
best practice across Queensland State Government agencies for Electronic
Document Management / Electronic Records Management;
- Records Storage Committee to investigate standards for secondary
storage of records within Queensland State Government agencies
and the cost-effectiveness of a whole of government approach to
secondary storage; and
- Professional Development Committee to investigate opportunities
for provision of professional development and to identify
strategies to promote records management as a career opportunity
within
Queensland State Government agencies.
Membership
Membership of the chapter is restricted to all employees of Queensland
State Government agencies or Statutory Authorities that have an interest
in Records Management. Contact the Chapter President or Secretary
for membership enquiries. State Government Chapter members are strongly
encouraged to be financial members of the RMAA.
