WIN - A Full Registration, Including Airfares and Accommodation to the RMAA 2007 International Convention, Wellington, New Zealand (Sept - 2007)
The RMAA is encouraging all eligible Affiliate Members (that is people who hold individual membership) and Company Nominees eligible for professional membership to upgrade their membership to be recognised as a Professional Member of the RMAA.
This is just about your last opportunity to be accredited as a Professional member of the Association before it is compulsory to have formal qualifications.
Gaining the first level of Professional Status (Associate) is straight forward and is a simple matter of filling in the matrix that and sending it to your local branch for assessment (or we can even come to you).
Professional members can have their membership paid for by their organisation or they can pay for the membership themselves (tax deduction). If individuals pay their own membership, payment instalments can also be arranged.
As part of Information Awareness Month (IAM) and to encourage members to take advantage of upgrading prior to the new criteria, the RMAA Board has established that all professional upgrades undertaken in the 2006 / 2007 financial year will go into the draw to win a registration (including airfares and accommodation) to the RMAA 2007 International Convention, to be held in Wellington, New Zealand. If you upgrade to Associate Status, you will receive 1 entry; Chartered Member status receives 2 entries and Fellow status receives 3 entries.
The RMAA felt that the time was right to raise the quality bar again,' explained National President, Kemal Hasandedic. It is right that we reinforce Association accreditation as the premier entry route for practitioners into professional membership.'
The existing membership grades will be retained, albeit with revised entry criteria.
'The Professional Status levels, and especially the Chartered Member and Fellow levels, will act as a beacon of excellence for records and information management professionals and emphasise the importance and quality of the Association’s professional standards,' said Hasandedic.
Members want to be recognised for their skills and want the pay classifications that go hand in hand with professional industries and as such, members must be prepared to be accredited as a professional member.
Why are the new professional standards and membership grading important?
Members of RMAA are entitled to a fair and equitable professional standard that underpins the status of the profession and supports strong career opportunities for its members. These professional standards enable existing RMAA members to move to higher membership levels by fulfilling the required criteria, thereby demonstrating recognised leadership within the profession.
About the membership categories and grades
In accordance with current theory and practice adopted by most professions, RMAA has developed a professional standards model and membership grades, to support its membership categories. Within this model each grade of membership is defined by criteria based on professional attributes expected of a practitioner at that level. The entry level of professional membership is that of Associate.
Members can be part of RMAA either through an individual membership, through being a nominated but individual member through their organisations paying the corporate fee, or through maintaining an individual membership as an emeritus member on retirement.
The RMAA Professional Status Guidelines are available for your information.
