Recognition Criteria
Levels of membership status within the Association emphasise commitment to, experience in, and knowledge of the discipline of records management. The recognition process can only be applied to the degree of understanding of the skills and knowledge in the discipline acquired by graduates of academic institutions. The depth of knowledge gained will vary with courses offered, and with institutions.
The criteria for institutional recognition for graduates aspiring for professional membership of the Association should, at undergraduate level, reflect the levels of skills and knowledge demanded at Level 5 of the Australian Standards Framework, and an awareness of the Levels 6 and 7 competencies. This level similarly applies for any postgraduate course, including Graduate Diploma and Graduate Certificate.
The academic component for aspirants for professional membership graduating from TAFE Diploma or Certificate awards, will require the levels of skills and knowledge demanded at Level 4 of the Australian Standards Framework. To achieve equivalent professional status to that of university graduates, consideration of the other elements, work experience and commitment, will be necessary.
The Association requires that, to achieve recognition of courses, the academic institutions teach and test the skills and knowledge that result in graduates demonstrating the competencies described above.
