Natalie Ceeney will be presenting a keynote on Beyond Records Management: The role of a National Archive in the 21st Century on Wednesday.
I'm Natalie Ceeney. I'm the Chief Exec. at the National Archives in UK and I'll be speaking at the 2007 Conference on the topic of Beyond Records Management.
At next year's conference, I'll be arguing that the traditional approaches we've all had to records management need to change in the increasingly complex digital world we're in and the pure focus on records management and historical archiving in no longer going to be sufficient for national or, potentially, local archives.
I'll be sharing my views that to achieve our goals we need to engage instead in a far wider debate across the whole spectrum of information management as well as records management and I'll be sharing the experiences we've got in the UK of doing exactly this.
In June this year (2006), we announced a merger with our Office of Public Sector Information. That office in the UK controls Crown Copyright and reuse regulations which have given the National Archives in the UK a much wider role across the whole information management spectrum.
When I come and speak in Wellington next year, I'll be sharing our experiences with taking information policy leadership in the UK and how it feels, how it better equipped the UK, and the impact it's had on the National Archives. And I look forward to meeting all of you next year.
