Confused about what competency frameworks mean? Why are there so many? Why are there recordkeeping competencies and the Statement of Knowledge for Recordkeeping Professionals? Are any of them needed at all? Why do we spend so much time talking about competencies? What difference will the review of the ‘Australian recordkeeping competencies’ published as part of the Business Services Training Package, make to the Statement of Knowledge?
This paper will clarify the who, what, when and why of competencies in archives and records. Competency frameworks do not exist in isolation so the discussion will also look at other archives and records frameworks. You will be amazed at how many there are!
