Dianne Macaskill will be presenting on The Second Act: from archives to records on Tuesday
Dianne Macaskill became the first Chief Executive and Chief Archivist in June 2001, following the establishment of Archives New Zealand as a stand-alone government department in October 2000 . Prior to taking up this role, she was a Deputy Government Statistician at Statistics New Zealand.
Dianne has worked in the New Zealand public service since 1971 concentrating her efforts on the management of public information and presenting that information in a usable, informative way.
During the time that she has been the Chief Executive of Archives New Zealand, Dianne has lead the implementation of the Public Records Act 2005 and overseen the development of the recordkeeping Continuum programme which provides Government agencies with effective tools and services to enable them to meet best practice recordkeeping standards. In 2005, she launched the Archives’ Archway programme, an online finding aid which now contains about four million items.
Dianne says that Archives New Zealand is constantly looking to improve the services that it provides. “We aim to make archives accessible as well as to ensure that we are effectively supporting government recordkeeping. The world is changing rapidly and we need to ensure that we are aware of emerging recordkeeping issues so that we can respond to them. Our government recordkeeping products need to be best practice but also recognised as adding value to the business objectives of agencies.”
Dianne holds a Bachelor of Science from the Victoria University of Wellington.
