Tony Krzyzewski will be presenting on It’s jaw dropping what people will do with information technology on Wednesday
Tony Krzyzewski is one of the better-known names within the New Zealand computer industry having spent the past thirty years working in a number of roles. His career began as a computer operator for AHI Computer Services in 1977 and, having decided that a more technical role suited him better, joined ITEL Corporation as a field service engineer in 1979.
During the next four years at ITEL, Tony spent more hours than he likes to think about trying to keep some rather truculent mainframe computers running so that the likes of NZ Forest Products and Northern Building Society could continue with their daily operations.
With the advent of the personal computer, Tony left ITEL to join Barson Computers as a technical sales representative where he had the pleasure of guiding some of the country's leading organisations in the new and then rather feared world of the PC. This period was the genesis for what was to be Tony's major area of expertise: data networking.
In 1988, Tony moved to BICC Communications to set up its New Zealand operation and quickly became a leading expert in local area networking. During this period, he designed a number of data networks that have become landmarks in their field including the Fisher & Paykel production networks and the high availability networks used within defence.
With the purchase of BICC Communications by 3Com in 1993, Tony decided that he had completed his apprenticeship and formed Kaon Technologies, a company he runs to this day. Initially continuing his work in high-end data networking, he identified a need for information security in 1995 and started moving the company in this direction. This move has led Tony to be referred to as a pioneer in the field of information security and today is regarded as one of the leading proponents of information security solutions.
In 2005, Tony and his wife, Jackie, established a new company, Kaon SecurITy Ltd, to assist organisations with the human factors relating to information security. Their SecurITy Policy package has rapidly risen to become a leading information security policy system within New Zealand and is now being implemented by overseas organisations.
To keep himself entertained Tony is a Civil Aviation Authority of NZ certified test pilot for experimental aircraft and has been constructing an aircraft for far too long. Construction of the aircraft has taken yet another pause while he and Jackie supervise the construction of a reproduction Edwardian villa that Tony designed.
