A view from the other side - an ICT update on technologies changing the face of IM

Content searching and Wikis are two technologies changing the way information is managed. Content searching tools have been around since the early nineties, but now they are commoditised and even embedded in the Microsoft Operating System. If everything is indexed why should staff worry where they put things - the index will find them. Content Searching is a very seductive tool for ICT professionals - they easily create a layer of order without having to address the underlying chaos - while making ICT look like the hero.

Wikis are a tool with equally wonderful potential - a corporate memory that can be self-learning and self-correcting. This is a truly profound opportunity for organisations to turn the tacit to the tangible. Every CEO should want one but ICT and RM should insist for the right reasons.

The aim of this presentation is to update RM professionals on the benefits and challenges of Content Searching and Wiki in organisations as well as share a few of the secrets of the ICT profession.
